Scroll is pleased to announce Inside Out II, a group exhibition opening Saturday, March 15th featuring new works by Niccolò Debole, Sebastián Espejo, Rowley Haynes, Cody Heichel, Tony Huynh, Jackson Joyce, Emily Pettigrew, Calli Ryan, Sarah Schlesinger, Nastaran Shahbazi, Matt Thomas, Daniel Um, Xiangjie Rebecca Wu, Roger Winter, and Nasir Young. Inside Out II is the second iteration presented by Scroll that focuses on artists’ visual explorations of our surroundings. From ancient frescoes to Chinese handscrolls, Caspar David Friedrich’s sublime natural world to Hilary Pecis’ Los Angeles mountains behind strip malls, Édouard Vuillard’s and Jordan Casteel’s bedroom portraits, depictions of everyday lives in relation to space have persisted across genre and medium throughout art history. In Inside Out II, Nastaran Shahbazi illustrate social gatherings alfresco; Jackson Joyce and Niccolò Debole zoom in on the minute details that may be overlooked; Emily Pettigrew and Matt Thomas capture rolling, bucolic plains. Bringing together sixteen artists from around the world, Inside Out II celebrates the beauty of our natural and built environments seen through new and contemporary perspectives.
