Chew
8 December – 9 January, 2026
Scroll is pleased to announce Chew, a group exhibition featuring work by Adèle Aproh, Hannah Motzel Brown, Katayoon Hosseinrad, Jackson Joyce, Hee Joh Lee, Sujin Lee, Hugo Rocci, Oliver Scarlin, Mythra Schwartz, Angela Witmore, and William Wright. This is the second iteration of Chew, which was the gallery’s inaugural exhibition in September 2022 in Tribeca.
Chew brings together paintings and works on paper depicting food, drink, tablescapes, and still lifes. Both intimate, personal, and universal, artists across centuries have explored this subject matter as a means of depicting desire, memory, and ritual. A meal is not simply sustenance for survival but can serve as a site where culture and community are staged and consumed.
The works presented in Chew draw upon a long, art historical lineage, from the opulent excess of Baroque banquets to the quiet restraint of the Modernist still life, from hyperreal surfaces verging on artificiality to gestures dissolving form into succulent sensation. Through diverse visual perspectives, Chew celebrates food as an essential cultural component that untangles how we understand one another.
